Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
These lectures will introduce students to some of the basic teachings of early Buddhism and trace how they were interpreted by later Buddhist thinkers and gradually shaped into the two great philosophical systems of Mahāyāna Buddhism: Madhyamaka and Yogācāra. Readings will include selected suttas (discourses) from the Theravāda canon, the Diamond Sūtra, Lotus Sūtra, Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (Nāgārjuna), Viṃśikā (Vasubandhu), and Pramāṇavārttika (Dharmakīrti). Texts will be available on Moodle.

Assessment: Student learning will be evaluated on the basis of a written exam at the end of the semester.
