Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The main aim of the course is to provide an introduction and overview of "overseas development aid" through major themes and topics. Students will learn the contemporary architecture of development aid, its history, major paradigms and the main actors in involved in development aid.

Topics include (but will not be limited to): 1) new actors in development aid; 2) aid effectiveness, accountability, ownership, and sustainability; 3) links between humanitarian and development aid and 4) Sustainable Development Goals.

The students will learn the historical context of development and to critically appraise major international and global strategies and policies such as the Millennium Development Goal, the Sustainable Development Goal and the Paris Agenda through a combination of lecturing, group presentation and written assignments.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Regular attendance, written assignments, group work and presentations.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Pre-knowledge on major development aid topics and issues will be an advantage but is not a requirement. Students who are also totally new to this topic can take part.
