The lecture deals with the roots, dimensions and perspectives of Global Learning in Europe (and beyond). The core isues are conceptional questions and areas of tensions in the field of Global Learning/ Global Education.Basic matters of concern are:
GL as a concept in formal, non-formal and informal education
GL as a pedagogical concept how to perceive and tackle global issues
GL as part of a vision of a sustainable development policyThe lecture also refers to GL in cross-conjunction with other educational concepts like Intercultural Learning, Global Citizenship Education or Education for Sustainable Development.
A special focus is put on the thematic issues: Social global inequity and Mobility and their integration in processes of learning. The core target is to critically analyse, reflect and understand GL as an inter- and cross-transdisciplinary approach to study international development. The following issues will be dealt with in detail:
- analysis and debate of the theory and practice of GL
- survey of national and international roots, experiences, discourses, challenges and perspectives of GL
- analysis of approaches by differing stakeholders and sectors across Europe (governments/ public institutions, local authorities, CSOs, academia, privat sector)
- analysis of national and international strategies and structures
- study of quality GL in the practice
- contextual transfer to and from the more general discourse on education as such
(role of education as a response to global challenges).Core methods are:
study and debate of of current literature (monographies, journals, articles)
exercises to experience particpatory and interactive GL methodologies
exemplary research into the practice of GL in European countries
production of a final paper
