The course looks at Brazil's foreign and economic policies under the Cardoso and Lula administrations and tries to answer the question how economic growth at home can be triggered by strategically adapting the country's foreign policy agenda to processes of globalization. What concrete steps have been taken by administrations of both presidents in order to do so? How does Brazil manoeuvre within international organizations in order to steer events according to their own political and economic interests?
