Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course wants to provide a comparative outline of the Western Modern branch of South Arabian: Mehri, Ḥarsūsi and Baṭḥari. Texts in the three languages will be examined and analysed together during classes. Both a typological and comparative assessment of the material will be discussed during classes. Active participation from the part of the students for the sakes of the analysis will be required. The students will have the chance to deal with original audio recordings and to work on unedited material on Baṭḥari.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The final examination can be prepared using the material provided during classes.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Active participation to classes and submission of the term paper are the minimum requirements to pass this course. Participation is mandatory. Three teaching hours can be missed.
Prüfungsstoff
The exam will be oral and will be focused on the linguistic analysis of the texts translated during the course. The student will be required to recognise and provide a basic description of the different word classes, possibly according to their academic background and interests (e.g. by adopting a historical/comparative or typological perspective). 70% of the final evaluation will depend on the oral exam, and 30% on class participation.
