Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grading will be based on in-class participation and performance in the presentation and final exam. The final exam will account for 25% of the grade for the course.

The grading system is as follows:
5 (0-52): not enough (not keeping up with the homework, homework full of mistakes, poor performance in class and/or on the final exam)
4 (53-65): enough (occasionally turning in the homework, homework and performance in in-class participation and on the final exam indicates some knowledge of the subject, but with much room for improvement)
3 (66-77): satisfactory (keeping up with the homework but without retaining information, homework and/or final exam passable but still not that great)
2 (78-90): good (keeping up with the homework, homework and/or final exam could be improved in terms of certain details but otherwise okay)
1 (91-100): very good (keeping up with the homework, homework and/or final exam has only minor errors, if any)

Prüfungsstoff

At the end of the semester, students will be given a take-home exam. This exam will consist of a photograph of an Ancient South Arabian inscription. Each student must produce a transliteration and a translation of this inscription. It is permissible to use any dictionaries or grammars, as well as any power-points from "Einführung in das Altsüdarabische I". More information on the exam will be given towards the end of the semester.

Literatur

Since we've finished the material covered in Peter Stein's "Sabäisches Lehrbuch" last semester, we will not be using any further textbooks this semester. That said, students may still wish to refer back to Stein's textbook when working through the texts assigned in class. The texts in question will consist of authentic Ancient South Arabian inscriptions, mostly in Sabaic, but also in Qatabanic, Minaic, and Hadramitic.
