Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The objective of this course is to observe how cultural evolution works. In other words, we will examine the way cultural products change in order to keep themselves relevant in different environments.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The students will be provided with bibliography and multimedia material that will help them get acquainted with the topics, even if they come from a background other than South Asian studies.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The course will be graded with a final essay. Students are to choose a topic of their interest, which they can discuss with the lecturer.

Prüfungsstoff

At the end of the course students are expected to make critical observations about the way culture transforms and get transformed by the social contexts in which it is developed.
They will also get familiar with some specific manifestations of South Asian lore and the way they have been incorporated into global and pop culture.
