Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The objective of this class is to enable students, under expert guidance and supervision, to read the text and experience its audio visual performance. The text selected for this class will be R. K. Narayan’s stories and Indian television series Malgudi Days.
The class meetings are divided into close reading, discussion and formal lecturing. It is absolutely necessary that all students engage with the weekly reading and watching the series in order to participate in the class discussions. Regular participation and a sound knowledge of Hindi are strictly demanded for the course.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Final examination asks students to respond to questions pertaining to the class readings. The final grade will be calculated as follows:
Reading text preparation and participation 25%
An essay (2000 Hindi words) on a given topic at the end of the semester 25%
Class attendance, Home works 20%
Preparation of one short video film based on one of the Narayan’s stories (in Hindi) at the end of the semester (30%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Attendance in the class, submission of homework and final essay, preparation of the assigned reading text for the class with vocabulary and active participation in team work are the main requirements, that will reward the student with positive marks at the of the semester.
