Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the Three Wheels of Dharma (Dharma-chakra Pravartana) as taught by Jigten Sumgön (1143–1217 CE), the founder of the Drikung Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism. The focus will be on the relevant chapter from the Dgongs Gcig (Single Intention), a compilation of Jigten Sumgön’s profound public and private teachings. To deepen understanding of the root verses in this chapter, we will study the commentary Dam chos dgongs pa gcig pa’i gsal byed (Illuminator of the Sublime Dharma of Single Intention) by the 4th Shamarpa, Chökyi Dagpa (1453–1524). Written in a relatively straightforward style, this text is accessible to those with basic knowledge of Classical Tibetan. The course will also provide a general introduction to the topics covered in the readings, along with explanations of technical philosophical terminology as needed.
