Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This class delves into the concept of gender and its multifaceted representation in Hindi literature, focusing on genres such as poetry, fiction, and other relevant texts. By examining these literary works, we aim to uncover how gender roles, identities, and relationships are portrayed and how they have evolved over time within the context of Indian society. The course will explore various facets of literary writings, considering both the creative and cultural dimensions of these texts. It will investigate the ways in which authors engage with and reflect upon the changing social landscapes of India, particularly in relation to gender. We will examine how these texts not only represent but also shape ideas of masculinity, femininity, and the intersection of these identities with class and caste.Through our study, we will also look at how the literature reflects broader shifts in the social structure—how the roles of women and men are negotiated, contested, and redefined within the literary space. By considering the cultural significance of these works, the class will aim to provide a deeper understanding of the connections between gender, literature, and society in both historical and contemporary contexts.
