Participants will present a research proposal, a chapter or sections of their current work and contribute to the seminar by offering constructive comments on the presentations of others.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Regular attendance and active participation in weekly sessions, including occasional blocked sessions, which will be scheduled and announced in advance.
Preparation through the prior reading of shorter assigned texts for each session.
Presentation of the dissertation or a relevant part (e.g., a chapter, manuscript, or exposé).
Consistent and constructive feedback on the work presented by other participants.

Prüfungsstoff
The examination material consists of active participation in seminar discussions, individual presentations, and the written submission of a chapter, manuscript, or exposé draft.
Literatur
Familiarity with foundational literature on modern South Asian studies is expected. Any additional readings will be discussed in class, based on the topics and needs arising from the participants' dissertation projects. Resources and materials will be made available via Moodle and during the sessions.

This colloquium is designed for MA and PhD students conducting research on modern South Asia, providing a platform to present and critically discuss ongoing projects. The course supports participants in refining their research questions, methodologies, and theoretical approaches through constructive feedback from peers and the instructor.Students will have the opportunity to present intermediate findings, unresolved challenges, or key arguments from their research. Presentations will be in English, with an emphasis on fostering clear and engaging communication of complex ideas. Beyond project-specific discussions, the colloquium will also address broader academic concerns such as publication strategies, navigating ethical considerations, and planning for careers in academia and beyond.The colloquium encourages an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas on topics central to the study of modern South Asia, including religion, politics, social structures, material culture, and transnational dynamics. Discussions will be enriched through engagement with the latest international scholarship, helping students situate their work within broader academic conversations.This course aims to build a collaborative and inclusive academic community, open to students from diverse disciplinary and cultural backgrounds, and fosters critical dialogue on the challenges and opportunities of researching South Asia today.
