Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this course, students are introduced to the major trends, directions, and debates in contemporary African studies, and asked to critically examine the most important nuances of the debates based on primary and secondary data and analyses.
Format of Class meetings: Class interaction will be in the form of lectures, student presentations, debates in class, computer-based electronic communications, and demonstrations of fundamental issues.
COURSE INTRODUCTION

In this course, students are introduced to the major trends, directions, and debates in contemporary African studies, and asked to critically examine the most important nuances of the debates based on primary and secondary data and analyses.
Pre-requisite and follow-up: First degree in African studies or a related area.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

A term paper on current trends in African studies; plus a student input on one of the session, written up in 2-3 pages.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Active participation during all class sessions will be the key.
