Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course develops a Religious Studies perspective on major East Asian religions. The selected religions will be explored in their historical and systematic dimension. Students will
• understand religious traditions as multi-dimensional constructs
• be able to interpret the basic features of the traditions studied
We will look at how religions see the world and how they relate to it.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

One two-hour written examination (50%)
2500 word essay (30%)
Class Participation (20%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The aim is to introduce students to the main beliefs and practices of major East Asian religions.

Prüfungsstoff

Students are requested to engage actively in discussion. Lectures will alternate with small exercises and group discussions. Essay topics will be discussed with the course co-ordinator in class. The two hour written examination will comprise three sections. Students will choose to answer one question in each section.
