Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

• Historical evolution of the Chinese diplomacy since 1949
• Important events in the history of Chinese diplomacy from the founding of the
People’s Republic of China to the present day
• Evaluation of the events and their influence on the development of China’s foreign
policy concept

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The final assessment will consist of three parts: Preparation and performance in class, mid-term exam and final exam. The proportion will be 20%:30%:50%.
Midterm exam will be conducted after the 7th week. The students will be given a topic to write papers at the end of the lecture of the 7th week. Papers shall be handed in at the 8th lecture.
The final exam will take place in the last week of the semester. The students have one week to write their papers on a given topic and shall hand them in at the last lecture time.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The objective of this course is to let the students acquire basic knowledge about Chinese diplomacy from the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949 to the present day. The course is aimed at deepening the understanding of the students of the Chinese history and politics and it will serve as an introduction to scientific study of sinology. Through the learning process, the ability of the students to do China Studies is envisaged to be trained and enhanced.

Prüfungsstoff

Students will be given reading material or reference books for the preparation before the lectures. After each lecture, time will be allocated for questions and answers as well as discussion. Every student should be prepared to answer questions on subjects under consideration and present his/her own views.
