Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar is about the internet economy in China. China has become the second largest internet economy in the world, just second to the United States and its Silicon Valley. The internet economies in the West and China have been mostly separated so far. However, we can expect to see more and more digital innovations and new business models spilling from China to the West in the coming years. In the seminar we will discuss Chinese incumbents, new players, their goals, technological and investment trends, and relevant regulations. And we will discuss what effects that may have on the Chinese society and "us" in the West.

The seminar consists of three parts:
a) Introduction to the internet economy in China
b) How to write a business proposal
c) Presentations by students of their business proposals

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

In order to pass this seminar, students are required to write a business proposal. A business proposal (~10 pages) is a short business plan. After being introduced to the Chinese internet economy as a whole, students should select either a viable business model they would consider to bring from the West to China or vice versa. The business proposals are judged by the quality of the research. It is expected that Chinese data sources are used as well.

- Presentation of the business proposal (40%)
- Written business proposal (50%)
