Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course covers pronunciation, spoken and written communication in various everyday situations. It is complementary to “Japanese Grammar I” and meant to be taken at the same time. The lesson covers the practical application of Japanese to “Japanese Grammar I”.

PREREQUISITES:

* Teaching language: English (C1 equivalent or better)
* Completed Lesson “Introduction to the Japanese Language”

* advance registration

* textbook (see below)

* You should budget about 10 hours per week of additional study time for lesson preparation, homework, assignments, etc. acting in synergy with the complementary lesson (see above).
* stable broadband connection, PC, technical means for tele-conferencing and high-quality voice recording, printer or the possibility to print somewhere and image scanning
* must meet current requirements for on-site sessions [“3G” at the time of writing]

GOALS:
 At the end of this course students should

* understand spoken Standard Japanese as used in certain everyday situations

* (re)act and communicate appropriately in these same situations

* read basic Japanese of familiar topics


The plan is to cover about one textbook lesson per week (excluding holidays), finishing up to at least lesson 9.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

This course uses continuous assessment (hat immanenten Prüfungscharakter).

* homework: 11%
* oral review: 3 are planned (in total 24%) (planned: online)
* mid-term exam: 30% (planned: on-site)
* final exam: 35% (planned: on-site)

Finally, up to 5% may be awarded / docked at the sole discretion of the lecturer.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

* First time attendance concludes the course application, which means the course will be graded (even if you stop attending the class mid semester and do not take the exam). You can deregister within the deadline.
 Missing the first lesson will result in an automatic deregistration and students on waiting list will fill the newly opened spot automatically.
If you are unable to attend the first lesson please contact the instructor by email, to avoid being automatically deregistered.
* It is expected that students can read Hiragana at the beginning of the course.
* There is a strict zero tolerance policy on cheating and plagiarism.
* Attendance (on-site or online): at least 80% of all classes
* The oral test is (planned) on camera.

* At least 60% is required to pass the course

0-100 points(%) scale.
Components weighted as above and translated into grades as follows:

>90% Excellent (A)
>80% Good (B)
>70% Satisfactory (C)
>60% Acceptable (D)
<=60% Failed (F)
