Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this course students will engage with the theoretical and methodological aspects of textual analysis and how this can be applied in Korean Studies-related research topics. It will introduce students to the tools and programming methods that are used in text analytics and work on a text analysis-related Korean Studies project.

What you'll learn:
* What theoretical texts are useful to grasp and gain a deeper understanding of Textual Analytics.
* Which digital tools and programming skills are needed to pursue a textual analytic-related project.
* How to create a Textual Analytic project that is interesting and relevant to Korean Studies research.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The course will be graded using the following assessment:

* Attendance + Reading + Group Discussion (10%).
* Project Notebook Assignment to show in detail how the project was pursued and developed, which dead ends and approaches were tried; what worked well, did not work out as planned, etc. (30%).
* Four Poster Assignments for your Textual Analytical Digital Korean Studies Project (15 Points each = 60%).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

To receive a passing grade for the course, a minimum grade of 60% is needed.

The grading scale for the course is as follows:
"Sehr gut"/very good (91-100%)
"Gut"/good (81-90%)
"Befriedigend"/satisfactory (71-80%)
"Genügend"/adequate (60-70%)
"Nicht Genügend"/fail (0-60%)

Weight of the individual assessments: Four Poster Assignments about your Digital Korean Studies Project 60 %, Project Notebook Assignment 30 %, Attendance and Active Participation 10 %

Prüfungsstoff

There will be four poster presentations created throughout the course about a Digital Korean Studies project of one’s choice that will focus on a Textual Analysis Related topic. You will find the specific requirements for the contents of the poster presentations in the syllabus on Moodle.

Students will also write a Project Notebook where it is detailed how the project was pursued. The deadline for the notebook is July 15, 2025.

Literature and readings will be announced during class and made available to students through Moodle.
