Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course offers an overview of the most important developments in Greek phonology and morphology from the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European and Proto-Greek to the Classical period. This will help us understand Linear B texts in Mycenaean and the Greek dialects of the first-millennium BCE. The historical knowledge of Greek will be supported by discussion of the history of writing, dialectal inscriptions, and the significance and intricacies of archaic poetic languages, especially Homeric. Students will acquire or deepen their critical knowledge of the history of ancient Greek by gaining insights into current debates in linguistics, dialectology, and on the Homeric Kunstsprache.
