Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The aim of this seminar is to practice the grammar of the Sogdian language by reading selected texts, providing philological and linguistic commentary.
In this seminar, we will also attempt to decipher primary Sogdian inscriptions and understand the artifacts on which these inscriptions are written.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

preparation and participation – 30%;
assignments assigned over the course of the semester – 70%;
final exam is written (text, no multiple-choice questions)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

No prior background knowledge is required, but basic understanding of historical linguistics is helpful
