Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this seminar, we will explore the syntax of Albanian, an Indo-European language with rich morphology, which makes it an excellent testbed for current theories of morphosyntax (in this context, we will in particular focus on the framework of Distributed Morphology). After introducing the peculiarities of the Albanian functional clause, special attention will be paid to the structure of wh-constructions (notably relative clauses), clitic constructions, the syntax of nominal constituents, and argument expression and realisation.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students are expected to do the readings before coming to class, come to class, participate actively by asking and answering questions, make a presentation with a handout, and write either an overview paper giving arguments for preferring a given analysis to alternatives from the literature, or a squib analysing something having to do with the topic of the seminar (not necessarily on Albanian, but with the more general topics discussed be them on A- or A-bar dependencies).
