Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

THE SYNTAX OF VERB MOVEMENT: This proseminar will look at the syntax of verb movement. We will consider short verb movement to a v position, middle-sized verb movement to Tense, the possibility of intermediate landing sites and finally V2, i.e. movement to C. The questions we will ask will encompass phonological, morphosyntactic and semantic triggers for movement and phonological, morphosyntactic and semantic consequences of the movement. We will also discuss different theoretical proposals within the broadly speaking generative tradition for verb movement.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Regular attendance, active participation (20%), discussion lead (30%), final essay 50%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Regular attendance and active participation in class, leading a discussion and submission of final paper is required.
Presentations and final paper will be marked according to pre-published marking criteria to be made available on Moodle.
Overall, 50% of success in each component merits a pass grade.
