180161 VO Theories of truth (2015S)

3.00 ECTS (2.00 SWS), SPL 18 - Philosophie

The course will start by introducing the distinction between minimalist (thin) and correspondence (robust) theories of truth. After discussing the role of truth in natural language, we shall focus on the explanatory power of truth, with case studies in philosophy of science and philosophy of mathematics. We shall also discuss various issues relating truth, relativism and scientific realism.
