Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

At the center of this seminar will be collected contemporary interpretations of later Wittgenstein in the book "Ethics in the Wake of Wittgenstein". We will be discussing different methodological approaches by Wittgenstein in his philosophy of language, logic, epistemology, philosophy of mind and philosophy of mathematics, in order to see whether they might be insightful for moral philosophy. There will be one preparatory session (1,5 h) in the beginning of the semester, in which we will further introduce the literature and talk through the different requirements and the procedure for this seminar. In the subsequent session in the beginning of May (3 h), every participant is expected to have read "Ethics in the Wake of Wittgenstein". We will then distribute different individual tasks that are each concerned with a certain aspect of the literature. This includes further comprehensive literature research in the chosen field. At the end of the semester this program will be completed by a three-day stay at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf, in which every participant will present the previously selected aspect of Wittgenstein’s work for moral philosophy.

We are able to provide free accommodation for the participants. However, the costs of individual transportation are expected to add up to roughly 60 €. Meals can be bought at the vegan-vegetarian restaurant at Gut Aiderbichl.
