Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Students deepen their knowledge with respect to the methodology of qualitative and quantitative research in education. They acquire the scientific and philosophical foundation of and practical guidelines on conducting mixed methods research, i.e. research in which qualitative and quantitative research components are combined and integrated.

Building on seminar M2a, seminar M2b starts with two very recent mixed methods overview articles. In small groups, students study one of the issues mentioned in these articles in depth, and they present their findings. Next, each student analyses one empirical mixed methods research article of their own choice, and indicate how the philosophical foundations of mixed methods are or are not reflected in the empirical study, which qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research techniques have been used, and which of the issues mentioned in the overview article are relevant. In the second part of the seminar, each student works on an essay on a topic of their own choice that is relevant to mixed methods. During the meetings, drafts of the essays will be presented and discussed.
