Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course will explore the prevalence, causes, socio-cultural understanding and perception of disability and persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. There will be a background discussion on the situation and livelihood of persons with disabilities in the country. Issue of access, questions of equity, types of educational provisions and pedagogical approaches employed to address the diversity of pupils will be thoroughly examined. Furthermore, there will be presentation on the law of the land, national policies and strategies to on diversity issues in general and education in particularly. To this effect, the UN conventions on the right of persons with disabilities which were ratified by Ethiopia will be highlighted. An attempt shall be made to critically analyse the opportunities, challenges as well as the gabs between policy and practice on the education of persons with disabilities in the country. Finally, deliberations on the prospects and strategies of diversity education in Ethiopia and reflections on: The Way Forward will be made.
During the course work students will be actively engaged in class participation, individual and group work.
