Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course aims to train students at proficiently performing the steps necessary to conduct an empirical study in psychology when starting from nothing but a designated topic (see below). This is a 2-semester course program. Attendance to summer semester 2022 course is not mandatory but strongly recommended. This first semester aims to prepare the students to conduct an online experiment or a survey for their bachelor project in summer semester 2022.
The steps:
(1) Become familiar with a topic
(2) Find a research question and formulate hypotheses
(3) Identify and assess the methods available
(4) Design your study
(5) Implement your study
(6) Conduct the study
Program: The students will be taught the steps 1 to 6. Six groups of 4 students each are to be created. Each group will be requested to produce a report for each step from 1 to 4 and will be evaluated on this basis. The course will be taught in German.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Grading system: 5 reports per group (written in English, 800 words per report, bibliographical references excluded).
Each student is the main responsible for 1 report (20% of overall grade) but also helps with the other 4 reports (10% of overall grade per report) = in total 60% of overall grade determined by the 5 reports. One oral presentation per group counting 15%; writing peer-feedback on another group’s reports counting 5%; individual participation in class and online counting 20%.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Good language skills in English and German. Attendance (on site or online) is compulsory; students may be absent for no more than two lectures.
