Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Obtaining and applying the academic skills to successfully write a scientific bachelor thesis in the form of a detailed research proposal
These skills include:
1. Collecting and reading existing scientific literature on a research topic and gaining
an overview of the current knowledge status on a topic
2. Conceptualizing and motivating a research question
3. Developing a concrete research design to address the research question
4. Writing clearly-structured, concise thesis sections in scientific research paper format
5. Giving, receiving and implementing feedback from peers and the course lecturer

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

1. Preparing, attending and actively participating in the regular milestone meetings
2. Handing in in the first and final versions of the bachelor thesis, meeting the formal requirements specified in the course
2. Giving a brief oral presentation about the thesis in one of the plenary presentation sessions

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The overall grade for the bachelor thesis seminar will be composed from the following partial grades:
• 10% Active participation in interim and milestone meetings (quality of milestones provided, peer feedback, integration of feedback)
• 10% Oral presentation of thesis plan
• 80% Bachelor thesis (50%: version I – 50% version II)
All partial assignment have to be graded with at least "sufficient" in order to receive the overall grade.

In evaluating your thesis I will pay attention to the following points:
• Structure, „roter faden“, and argumentation of the introduction section
• Appropriateness and intregration of literature used
• Quality and clarity of knowledge gap description and research question
• Completeness, comprehensibility and clarity of method section
• Discussion of relevance and critical reflection on limitations
• Writing style (clear, concise, comprehensible, exact/to-the-point, formal enough)

A writing guide and detailed instructions for writing the thesis will be provided during the course.
