Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course will cover selected topics relating to the development of social cognition, including basics of social perception, imitation, empathy and prosociality, moral development, rhythms in social cognition, and social touch. The course will consist of lecture sessions and exercise sessions, the latter featuring short tests about the lecture content, debates, and discussions.
Participants will expand their knowledge on developmental psychology, with a particular focus on social cognition. They will be encouraged to engage in critical analysis of the presented research, and will be given opportunities to practice their research design skills.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will be required to take short tests about the content of the lectures (six tests throughout the semester), to participate in groups in a classroom debate on an assigned topic, and to be active in the exercise sessions (which involves coming prepared, reading the literature).
The final grade will be calculated as follows: 40% short tests (an average of 4 best test scores out of the total of 6 tests will be included in the grade calculation), 30% debate preparation and participation, 30% overall activity in class.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Two absences (without special arrangement with lecturers) are permitted. Students must contribute to each component of the grade (tests, debate, activity) to pass the seminar.

Based on the total percentages, the final grade will be determined as per:
1 (very good): 90-100 %
2 (good): 80-89 %
3 (satisfactory): 70-79 %
4 (sufficient): 60-69 %
5 (insufficient = negative performance): 0-59 %

Prüfungsstoff

The short tests will be based on the content of the lectures.

Literatur

The literature will be provided on the Moodle platform of the course.
