Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Students will learn about the topics and methods of two research groups at the Faculty of Psychology, each of which investigates the nuanced ways that individuals interact with and are impacted by their environments: (1) the ARTIS Lab (Art Research on Transformations of Individuals and Society), which focuses on empirical assessments of how our interactions with art or our aesthetic worlds might impact us at the levels of our feelings, cognitions, brains, and bodies. (2) The Environmental Psychology Research group, which investigates the impact of different natural and built environments on people's well-being on the one hand and the impact of human behaviour on the natural environment on the other hand (e.g., climate change, pollution, biodiversity). Via a mix of lecture and individual or group work, students will have the opportunity to hear about the background of these fields as well as the current projects and methodologies being investigated and employed.

This VU will be held in English.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Participation in the sessions, max 2 times absent; Minimum for passing the class is a grade 4 in each assignment.

There are two assignments, one for each part of the VU:

Aesthetics: a group presentation, 10 min with slides (and a hand-out 1 page, APA Style). Students develop a research idea in small groups in class, and give a group presentation in sessions 5 or 6;

Environmental Psychology: a policy report, max. 1,000 words, plus references, 12p, APA norms, single space, to be handed in online. Students will write a short report summarising relevant evidence for a decision-making body to inform policy; this adds a different, practical angle to academic work and provides complementary skills in communicating scientific work to different audiences and in a different style.

Details will be given during the course and will be available on moodle, including deadlines.
