** [ATTENTION] ** How to participate? **
You are automatically signed up for the course if you participated in the TEWA 1 last semester (SS 2020). In case there are still spots available, interested students might be able to participate by expressing their interest directly via email to Dr. Isabella Wagner (incl. your name and student number). This is only possible for students who participated in a TEWA 1 (either last- or in one of the previous semesters). The meeting link to the first date will be sent around via email to these potential participants shortly before the date. We will then go through the list of sign-ups to determine the final participant list.** [ATTENTION] ** See below for dates and times **Dienstag 06.10.2020 09:45 - 11:15 -- online, will be announced via Email! ** Platzvergabe**Dienstag 13.10.2020 09:45 - 11:15 Hörsaal G Psychologie, Liebiggasse 5, 2. Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course will be held in English.[AIMS:]The course teaches the theoretical background and practical steps necessary to perform (and interpret the results of) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data analysis. Specifically aimed at students that plan or already started a master- or doctoral thesis using fMRI.[CONTENT:]In the previous years, students were asked to analyze fMRI data of two different studies with SPM (https://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/), using common activation-based analysis techniques, as well as brain connectivity methods. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, practical sessions will not be possible. Instead, we will have weekly lectures focused on fMRI basics and different neuroscience topics, including brief overviews of how different analyses can be performed (incl. materials, links, and videos specifically for master students who are planning on using this method).Students are asked to (a) actively participate in discussions, (b) to orally present one fMRI paper (list with dates and papers will be handed out in first lecture), and (c) to complete short tests about recent content throughout the semester.[METHODS:]Oral presentations by lecturer and students, in-class participation, homework/brief exams, excursion to the fMRI scanner of the faculty (if possible).[GENERAL INFO:]Die endgültige Platzvergabe erfolgt beim ersten Treffen. The course will be held in Hörsaal G, Liebiggasse 5. This room has a capacity of 32 persons. Students are asked to comply to distance and hygiene rules. If distance of 1m is not possible (for example, when entering the lecture hall), masks must be worn. Windows will be opened frequently. Please see also: https://slw.univie.ac.at/fileadmin/user_upload/p_homelearning/200616_Hygieneregeln_A4_DE.pdfUnless communicated otherwise, students are expected to participate in weekly lectures in HS G. Students with COVID-19 symptoms, or students who had contact with another person tested positive for COVID-19 (or a suspected case), are asked to stay at home.Students who belong to a risk group are asked to notify the lecturer after the first course date (“Platzvergabe”, which will be held online). If needed, the course will be offered in “hybrid” mode, i.e., in-person for students who are able to participate “live”, and simultaneously online for students at home.Should the situation change, i.e., if in-person/hybrid lectures are not possible, the course will be offered fully online. In any case, students are asked to actively participate. A max. of 2 dates can be missed.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The final grade considers active participation, homeworks/oral presentations, and brief exams. Further details will be discussed in the course.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Basic neuroscience and statistics knowledge.
Prüfungsstoff
Will be discussed in course.
