Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course is intended to provide sufficient knowledge to the theory and empirical research practice in the domain of experimental psychology, social/cognitive neuroscience and clinical psychology. The general aim of the course is to prepare the students to independently develop research ideas and to formulate their implementation. Although not necessary, we recommend taking TEWA1 (SS 2021) followed by TEWA2 (WS 2021). Through a combination of theory-oriented classes, practical tutorials and group activities, the following material will be covered:
Introducing of selected topics of the contemporary experimental psychology and social/cognitive neuroscience; literature research with the use of reference manager; understanding academic literature and developing scientific thinking through practical work (individually and in groups); in group development of original research idea and detailed formulation of its experimental implementation, which will be presented orally, and summarized individually in a written exposé; introducing the methods used in social neuroscience (fMRI, EEG etc.); covering different kinds of research designs; journal club exercises; ethical considerations in research.

Presence, oral group presentation, written exposé, active participation in practical activities.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Active participation in all performance-relevant aspects. Acquisition of the competences necessary for the planning and preparing of a research project in the field of experimental psychology/social neuroscience.

Prüfungsstoff

Reading and discussion of the relevant literature, development of the skills taught during the course, presence and active participation in class, oral presentation and written exposé about own research idea.
