200221 SE Theorie u. Empirie wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens (Klinische Psychologie und Gesundheitspsychologie) 1 (2024S)

In the first TEWA semester, students will acquire research skills through class exercises and practical lab work at the Clinical and Social Neuroscience (CSN) Unit. The goal of the course is to go through all steps of the research process in psychology - designing, conducting and presenting a research study. This is designed to prepare students for the work they will need to put into their master thesis.

Students will form research groups with around 3-5 members. Groups will either conduct research in one of the CSN Unit research projects (topics include music therapy in autism, emotional literacy in children, and social reward), or conduct their own research project.

Students will learn to:
- Read, interpret, critically reflect on, and integrate research literature
- Identify gaps in literature and pose feasible research questions and hypotheses
- Identify methods that can address the research questions and test the hypotheses
- Apply open science practices and address ethical concerns

Contents:
- Class work: frontal lectures, practical exercises, and oral presentation
- Lab work: research tasks within projects conducted at the CSN unit or preparation of one’s own study

Class will be held in presence.
