Die selbstständige Anmeldung innerhalb der Anmeldephase zu Semesterbeginn ist für die Teilnahme an dieser Lehrveranstaltung verpflichtend! Eine nachträgliche Anmeldung ist NICHT möglich.
Anwesenheitspflicht in der ersten LV-Einheit: Studierende, die der ersten Einheit unentschuldigt fern bleiben, verlieren ihren Platz in der Lehrveranstaltung, und Studierende von der Warteliste können nachrücken.

Nach der ab Oktober 2015 geltenden Satzung der Universität Wien gibt es neue letztmögliche Abgabefristen für Seminararbeiten falls Lehrveranstaltungsleiter keine kürzeren Fristen bekannt geben.

Die Lehrveranstaltungsleitung kann im Einzelfall entscheiden, ob ein Gespräch zur Arbeit erforderlich ist. Das Gespräch ist notenrelevant und ist zu dokumentieren (Prüfungsprotokoll).
Stellt sich bei dem Gespräch heraus, dass der/die Studierende über die Inhalte des schriftlichen Beitrags keine oder ungenügend Auskünfte geben kann, ist die Seminararbeit (=Teilleistung) negativ zu bewerten. Gibt der/die Studierende zu, dass die Arbeit nicht selbst verfasst wurde, ist die Lehrveranstaltung mit einem "X" zu bewerten ("Nichtbeurteilung wegen unerlaubter Hilfsmittel").

Plagiate
Ein Plagiat ist die bewusste und unrechtmäßige Übernahme von fremdem geistigem Eigentum; der/die AutorIn verwendet ganz oder teilweisefremde Werke in einem eigenen Werk, ohne die Quelle anzugeben. Dies wird im Sammelzeugnis mit einem X gekennzeichnet und mit folgendem Zusatz versehen. Nicht beurteilte und nichtige Prüfungen: Gemäß § 74 ist die Beurteilung einer Prüfung für nichtig zu erklären, wenn diese Beurteilung oder die Anmeldung zu dieser Prüfung erschlichen wurde (N), Gemäß § 13 (7) des studienrechtlichen Satzungsteils der Universität Wien sind Prüfungen, bei denen unerlaubte Hilfsmittel mitgenommen oder verwendet werden, nicht zu beurteilen (X).

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course discusses the concept of Europeanization beyond the EU. It explores the actors and processes of decision-making in EU policies targeting non-member states to debate broad questions regarding the nature and implications of the EU external action. Students will learn about the dynamics of deepening and widening the EU in light of different integration theories.
Students will learn how to apply the analytical tools of Political Science to EU policy-making in the Mediterranean as a case study for Europeanization beyond the EU. They will be able to understand and question the main practices, dynamics and balances of power behind more than 20 years of EU external action towards the Middle East and North African countries.
This course has a seminar format. Students are required to actively participate in the
class debate.
Phase 1 is an in-depth introduction to the developing framework of Europeanization of the Southern rim of the Mediterranean. It relies on compulsory readings and complementing material that will be discussed during the class.
Phase 2 involves students´ presentations and preliminary discussions of selected readings on Country cases.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Coursework includes three assignments:
1. A short summary of the literature of the first phase at its end (max 750 words).
2. One analysis (presentation) of suggested country-based articles in no more than 15 minutes. Presentations will be done in groups.
3. One short essay (1500 words). The essay merges the theoretical framework of the first phase and one of the country-cases discussed during the second phase. Additional literature can be added by the student and will be positively assessed.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

• Summary, presentation and essay, all count towards the final grade. Summary 25%, presentation 20%, essay 55%.
• Attendance is mandatory, and participation can tip the scale if the final evaluation stands between two grades.
• The essay is due no later than December 12th.
• The summaries are due within the session following the last session of Phase 1 (November 3rd).
• The presentation has to be submitted in the form of slides or notes on the night before the respective session (23:59).
