Political Theory from a Latin American Perspective (engl.)

Prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung

Die Lehrformate für das WS (digital, hybrid, vor Ort) befinden sich in Entwicklung. Die Lehrenden werden die geplante Organisationsform und Lehrmethodik auf ufind und Moodle bekannt geben. Aufgrund von Covid19 muss mit kurzfristigen Änderungen in Richtung digitaler Lehre gerechnet werden.

Nicht-prüfungsimmanente (n-pi) Lehrveranstaltung. Eine Anmeldung über u:space ist erforderlich. Mit der Anmeldung werden Sie automatisch für die entsprechende Moodle-Plattform freigeschaltet. Vorlesungen unterliegen keinen Zugangsbeschränkungen.

VO-Prüfungstermine erfordern eine gesonderte Anmeldung.
Mit der Teilnahme an der Lehrveranstaltung verpflichten Sie sich zur Einhaltung der Standards guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis. Schummelversuche und erschlichene Prüfungsleistungen führen zur Nichtbewertung der Lehrveranstaltung (Eintragung eines 'X' im Sammelzeugnis).

Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this class we discuss political ideas shaped in Latin America and the Caribbean from its beginning during the XV to contemporary discussions. Most of these ideas engage with mainstream “Western” political thought and are an intellectual reaction to the past and current colonial regime.
Topics include the critique of the conquista, issues of racism and ethnicity in the context of the colonial system, the influence of positivism in the continent, anti-colonial thought and dependency, and philosophy of liberation.
We will read and discuss seminal texts of the Latin American Political Theory canon.

This course will be taught digitally through assignments and interactive/uploaded lectures. On-line classes are organized to discuss your essays.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Elaboration of a review essay of a course text and a final essay (min. 2800 words) - due two weeks after the last session.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grading Criteria:
Review Essay of a course text 30 Points
Final Essay (min. 2800 words) 70 Points

Grading Scale:
1 = 87-100 % excellent (outstanding performance)
2 = 75-86 % good (generally good, but with some errors)
3 = 63-74 % satisfactory (generally sound work with a number of substantial errors)
4 = 50-62 % sufficient (performance meets the minimum criteria)
5 = 0 – 49 % unsatisfactory
