Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Complimentary to the lecture “Internationale Politik” (German) this course will focus on the empirical context of the Middle East Conflict. In this course we will deepen aspects discussed in the lecture and focus on the recent escalation in the Middle East as well as the conflict’s broader historical and political contexts and narratives. Also, we will discuss different approaches towards mediation and conflict transformation.Students are strongly encouraged to keep track of the latest international news about the Middle East Conflict as this will provide them with relevant context for peer discussion and analysis of academic texts. Students will write small papers, engage in group presentations and active peer-group discussions. Final projects will be presented in June 2024. Among the topics and categories to be discussed are peace and conflict theories and postcolonial approaches.As this reading course requires continuous evaluation, attendance of all block formats is mandatory. Students will prepare and discuss different readings during the sessions. Besides active classroom participation and participation in peer-group work, students write a final paper or alternatively submit a creative final project. Further details will be presented in the first session.Students are kindly asked to keep track of the Moodle platform as well as their university email accounts.

1. Reflexion Papers of Readings: 30 percent
2. Active classroom participation and peer group work: 30 percent
4. Final paper (or final project): 40 percentThe reading course will be held in English. Continuous attendance is required in this block-format.
