Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this course, we will deal with various trends in current antisemitism research, such as post-Holocaust antisemitism, philosemitism, left-wing antisemitism, Jew-hatred in Muslim societies and communities as well as in former real-socialist countries. Furthermore, light will be shed on contesting perceptions of these phenomena, different explanatory models, respective research institutions and proposed counter-measures. The course addresses international as well as domestic students who display interest in thorough academic inspection of this fiercely debated subject.
After an introduction by the lecturer to antisemitism research and to basic social science study and research techniques, participants will present their findings on topic-related panels with the opportunity of subsequent discussion. In addition to that, renowned experts will be invited to give talks on the core issues of this class. Course participants may, of course, focus on their specific interests and main emphases.
