Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Students develop and implement empirical research projects in the field of Media & Politics. In this first semester students develop their ideas for research projects based on the state-of-the-art in the international literature. They provide rationales for problem definitions, literature reviews and based on a theoretical framework formulate concrete research questions and hypotheses. Students develop first ideas of research designs and measurement instruments. The final paper reads like a proposal for the research project, which then is implemented in the following semester. Session are a mix of lectures and interactive feedback sessions.

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
In this year-long seminar, students will develop and conduct an empirical study in the area of media effects and media reception research covering the research areas strategic communication (advbertising and PR) or political persuasion. Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
• To help the students identify a research gap
• To teach the students how to define constructs and items belonging to them
• To go through all necessary steps in an empirical research
• To enable students for a future independent research through simulating a class research
• To teach the students how to test theories of the Communication Sciences empirically
• To introduce students to selected major areas of research in this field as carried out within the Department of Communication, as well as kindred areas of the Field of Communication Research.
• To make students capable of performing statistical tests relevant for the field
• To simulate a real academic research in group work
• To help students cultivate scholarly skills, ethical norms, awareness of funding possibilities, the art of teaching and academic service – that is, academic craftsmanship.
