Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
In this course, students will be evaluated in the following ways:
(a) class participation
(b) writing and narrowing a research topic
(c) writing a quantitative research question
(d) writing research hypotheses
(e) drafting survey questions
(f) pre-testing survey questions
(g) revising survey questions
(h) conducting survey (collecting survey data)
(i) in-class activities: analyzing collected data, interpreting results, writing up results.
(j) writing a qualitative research question
(k) activities outside of class: conducting interviews, transcribing taped interviews
(l) in-class activities: analyzing interview transcripts, interpreting results, writing up results.
(m) 2 in-class exams
(n) final research paperHinweis der SPL: bei Feststellung einer erschlichenen Teilleistung (Abschreiben, Plagiieren, Ghostwriting, etc.) muss die gesamte Lehrveranstaltung als geschummelt gewertet und als Antritt gezählt werden.

Grades for the entire course will be assigned as follows:
1 Sehr gut 90% and above
2 Gut 80% - 89%
3 Befriedigend 70% - 79%
4 Genügend 60% - 69%

(1) demonstrate a knowledge of methods sociologists use to conduct research;
(2) discuss techniques and analyze data using a sociological approach;
(3) produce a research proposal, with appropriate literature, hypotheses, and research design.
The Methods course introduces students to the most important research methods and techniques inthe behavioral sciences, includingresearch design,methods of data collection, particularly surveys, intensive interviews, participant observations, historical and comparative research, among others. This course will also address the benefits and liabilities of each approach.
