230021 VO Multivariate Analyseverfahren (2010W)

This course provides an introduction to the logic of multivariate statistical models, as they are commonly and increasingly applied in the social science disciplines. The course emphasizes the understanding of statistical concepts and uses of statistics via SPSS rather than mathematical formulas. Topics are for example correlation, linear regression, logistic regression (odds ratio, relative risk), analysis of variance, factor analysis, cluster analysis, introduction to advanced topics: hierarchical log-linear models, event history analysis. The goals of the VO are to develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate published work in social sciences and to develop student's skills in modelling and carrying out their own research via multivariate analysis.
