Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course aims to provide insights into contemporary population dynamics and relate them to societal issues such as economic and cultural development, revolutions, environmental, and policy issues. The course covers three main areas: First, it addresses population issues, such as fertility and family dynamics, aging, (im)migration, and other features of changing population structures from a comparative perspective. Second, it presents theories explaining the causes of population development, highlighting in particular issues of economic, cultural, social, and institutional changes; and third, it discusses the consequences of population development for social, economic, environmental, and political development.

Prüfungsstoff
The course is based on literature. Students are expected to read and critically assess the literature provided, to lead discussions, to synthesize the literature and discussion to a higher level and to produce new and innovative views of the topic.
