Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The basic premise of this course is that a comparative perspective can
yield fresh insights in the study of immigrants and their children.
Focusing on Europe and the United States, the course will consider
several types of comparisons: comparisons of immigrants today in the
U.S. and in earlier historical eras; comparisons of different national
origin groups in one setting and of the same national origin group in
different destinations; and cross-national comparisons of the immigrant
and second-generation experience in the U.S. and Western Europe. In the
context of a comparative approach, we will look at a range of topics,
including race, ethnicity and religion, transnationalism, and gender
dyamics.
