Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Over the past decades ethics in research has become an increasing issue. An increasing number of rules, institutional procedures and special committees have been put in place to take care of these ethical issues. But at the same time also the topic of deviant behaviour in research, such as fraud or plagiarism has moved high onto the agenda. What practices are regarded as legitimate in science and scholarship and which ones are denounced as illegitimate? What are the structural features of science that condition variation in rates and types of malpractice? How are the norms and values of doing good research established, handed on to the next generation and inscribed into research practices? These are but some of the central questions that will be addressed in this seminar.

Prüfungsstoff

In this seminar, we will address issues of ethics in research on a conceptual, structural and research practical level. It will work through some case studies to better understand the different dynamics at work. The same holds for the phenomenon of illegitimate practices in research.
