Zusammensetzung der Gesamtnote
Die Benotung der Lehrveranstaltung erfolgt auf Grundlage der getrennten Bewertung der verschiedenen Aufgaben auf einer Skala von 1-5.

Lektüre von Texten, aktive Mitarbeit in den Unterrichtseinheiten:
20 Prozent, Individuell bewertet, Feedback auf Nachfrage;
Erarbeiten und Dokumentation einer Debatte in der Gruppe anhand von einzelnen Arbeitsaufträgen: 45 Prozent, als Gruppenarbeit bewertet, Feedback von LV-Leitung vorgesehen;
Verfassen eines Beitrags für eine breitere Öffentlichkeit: 20 Prozent,
Individuell bewertet, Feedback auf Nachfrage;
Führen eines Laborbuchs: 15 Prozent, Individuell bewertet, Feedback auf Nachfrage;

Jede Teilleistung wird selbstständig bewertet. Anwesenheit, Pünktlichkeit in der Abgabe von Leistungen und die Einhaltung akademischer Standards werden vorausgesetzt, können sich aber im Fall der Nicht-Einhaltung negativ auf die Gesamtnote auswirken. Zum Erreichen einer positiven Note muss der gewichtete Durchschnitt der Teilnoten größer oder gleich 4,5 sein.

Wichtige Informationen zur Beurteilung
Wenn nicht explizit anders vermerkt, ist die Erbringung aller Teilleistungen Voraussetzung für eine positive Beurteilung. Werden einzelne verpflichtend vorgesehene Teilleistungen nicht erbracht, gilt die Lehrveranstaltung als abgebrochen. Falls dem Nichterbringen der Leistung kein wichtiger und unvorhersehbarer Grund auf Seiten des/der Studierenden zu Grunde liegt, wird die LV negativ beurteilt. Bei Vorliegen eines solchen Grundes (etwa einer längeren Erkrankung) kann der/die Studierende auch nach Ablauf der Frist von der LV abgemeldet werden. Über das Vorliegen eines wichtigen Grundes entscheidet die Lehrveranstaltungsleitung. Der Antrag auf Abmeldung ist unverzüglich nach Eintreten des Grundes zu stellen.
Wurde eine Teilleistung erschlichen, d.h. etwa bei einer Prüfung oder einem Test geschummelt, bei einer schriftlichen Arbeit plagiiert oder Unterschriften auf Anwesenheitslisten gefälscht, wird die gesamte Lehrveranstaltung als ‘nicht beurteilt’ gewertet und mit dem Vermerk ‘geschummelt/erschlichen’ in das Notenerfassungssystem eingetragen.

Anwesenheit
Es herrscht Anwesenheitspflicht, sowohl für die Seminareinheiten, als auch für die im Handout fixierten Tutorien. Außerdem stehen jeder Gruppe freie Tutoriumstermine zur Verfügung. Es dürfen höchstens eineinhalb Seminareinheiten (6h) versäumt werden. Darüber hinausgehende Abwesenheiten können bis zu einer Gesamtsumme von maximal 12 Stunden durch mit der Lehrveranstaltungsleitung zu vereinbarende Zusatzleistungen und/oder Berücksichtigungen in der Note (Punktabzug) ausgeglichen werden. Die Entscheidung darüber trifft die Lehrveranstaltungsleitung.

Bei Abwesenheiten von mehr als zwölf Stunden oder falls die Lehrveranstaltungsleitung bei Abwesenheiten über vier Stunden einem Ausgleich nicht zustimmt, kann die Lehrveranstaltung nicht mehr positiv absolviert werden und ist negativ zu beurteilen. Eine Ausnahme von dieser Regelung ist zu gewähren, falls auf Seiten des/der Studierenden ein wesentlicher und unvorhersehbarer Grund für die Nicht-Teilnahme vorliegt. Dieser ist von der*dem Studierenden glaubhaft nachzuweisen. Bei Vorliegen eines solchen Grundes wird der/die Studierende ohne Note vom Kurs abgemeldet. Die Entscheidung darüber trifft die Lehrveranstaltungsleitung.

The grading of the course is based on the separate assessment of different tasks on a scale of 1-5.

Preparation of the readings and active participation in class: 20 percent, assessed individually, Feedback on demand;
Mapping and documentation of a debate along specific work assignments (group work), regular presentation of work progress in class: 45 percent, assessed as group work, Feedback by lecturer;
Writing of a contribution for a larger public audience: 20 percent,
assessed individually, Feedback on demand;
Keeping a research diary: 15 percent, assessed individually,
Feedback on demand;

Minimum requirements
To successfully complete the course, a weighted average of at least 4,5 is required. Failure to meet the
attendance regulations, to deliver course assignments on time or to adhere to standards of academic
work may also be considered in the course assessment.

86-75 points Good (2)
74-63 points Satisfactory (3)
62-50 points Sufficient (4)
49-0 points Unsatisfactory (5) (fail)

Important Grading Information
If not explicitly noted otherwise, all requirements mentioned in the grading scheme and the attendance regulations must be met. If a required task is not fulfilled, e.g. a required assignment is not handed in or if the student does not meet the attendance requirements, this will be considered as a discontinuation of the course. In that case, the course will be graded as ‘fail’ (5), unless there is a major and unpredictable reason for not being able to fulfill the task on the student's side (e.g. a longer illness). In such a case, the student may be de-registered from the course without grading. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate this in a timely manner, and to provide relevant evidence to their claims if necessary. Whether this exception applies is decided by the lecturer.
If any requirement of the course has been fulfilled by fraudulent means, be it for example by cheating at an exam, plagiarizing parts of a written assignment or by faking signatures on an attendance sheet, the student's participation in the course will be discontinued, the entire course will be graded as ‘not assessed’ and will be entered into the electronic exam record as ‘fraudulently obtained’. Self-plagiarism, particularly re-using own work handed in for other courses, will be treated likewise.

Attendance
Presence and participation is compulsory; this applies to the course sessions as well as to the tutorials given in the handout. In addition to this, students also have the possibility to participate in open tutorials to the extent of seven hours. Absences of six hours at maximum are tolerated, provided that the lecturer is informed about the absence. Absences of up to ten hours in total may be compensated by either a deduction of grading points or/and extra work agreed with the lecturer. Whether compensation is possible is decided by the lecturer.

Absences of more than eight hours in total cannot be compensated. In this case, or if the lecturer does not allow a student to compensate absences of more than six hours, the course cannot be completed and is graded as a ‘fail’ (5), unless there is a major and unpredictable reason for not being able to fulfil the attendance requirements on the student’s side (e.g. a longer illness). In such a case, the student may be de-registered from the course without grading. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate this in a timely manner, and to provide relevant evidence to their claims if necessary. Whether this exception applies is decided by the lecturer.
