Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The seminar aims to establish familiarity with core contemporary and historical demographic topics and research . The course will allow students to critically read, discuss, reflect, and make scientific debates on selected demographic topics.
Learning outcomes;
After completing the seminar, participants will gain extensive knowledge and insights into essential themes regarding global population growth, fertility, mortality, and migrations. In addition, they will learn to critically evaluate and represent scientifically sound views on complex and often controversial issues related to demographic developments.
Methods
This course is highly interactive. Students will participate in a group, reading, critically evaluating, and presenting published academic journals on relevant topics assigned by the course instructor. Therefore, a participant in the seminar will have multiple active roles:
-Presenter. present selected scientific papers set by the course instructor
- Chair discussions and debates
- Participate in a debate or panel discussion
- Prepare reviews based on course readings.
- Be a discussant

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The evaluation of successful completion of this course involves (i). participation and questions in the other presentations and debates (20 %). (ii). active participation in debates (20 %) . (iii). lead discussion and debates (20 %) (iv). class room presentation (20 %) (v). Submission of take-home assignment (20 %).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

For a successful completion of the course, all performance components must be delivered in time and passed individually (at least 50% per performance component). The final grade will be determined as follows
[90%-100%]: Excellent (1) [75%-89%]: Good (2) [60%-75%): Satisfactory (3) [50%-60%): Sufficient (4) <50%: Unsatisfactory (5)
Attendance is compulsory; One missed session will be excused if the instructor is informed beforehand with a convincing reason .
