Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This lecture covers the policy dimension of demographic trends at the national and international level. It will start with the history of population related policies in the fields of mortality/health, fertility and international migration. A specific focus will be on international conventions and the sequence of international population conferences during the second half of the 20th century. In particular, we will discuss the fundamental paradigm shift from population control to reproductive health that took place around the 1994 Cairo World Population Conference.
The lecture will also cover the evolution of European migration policies and summarize the current state of dealing with policy challenges in the context of depopulation and population ageing in Europe.
The course will be given in the form of a lecture that will be recorded with the video as well as the Power Point slides used available on Moodle.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment will be in the form of a final exam in which students will be asked to write short essays on topics covered in the lecture. It will be an open book exam.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In the exam students must show their knowledge of the topics covered as well as their independent critical analysis of them. There will be a strict check for plagiarism.
a) Maximum number of points that can be achieved: 100
b) Minimum requirement for a positive result: 50 points
c) Scale of marks:
91 - 100.....points Grade 1
78 - 90.......points Grade 2
64 - 77.......points Grade 3
50 - 63.......points Grade 4
Under 50 points Grade 5
