Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The performance components consist of (i) writing exercises, (ii) presentations, and (iii) active participation:(i) Writing exercises (30%): Students will write a text on a research question of their choice, practicing everything they have learned throughout the course. They will receive peer feedback.(ii) Presentations (40%): Students will give two presentations. A short one, pitching their research idea at the beginning of the course, and a longer one, presenting their research topic in a mini conference towards the end of the course.(iii) Active participation (30%): Students are asked to actively participate in class. Moreover, they are expected to work on short take-home assignments such as critically reading a research article or providing peer feedback to their colleagues.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
For a successful completion of the course, all performance components must be delivered on time. The final grade will be determined as follows100%-91%: Excellent (1)
90%-81%: Good (2)
80%-71%: Satisfactory (3)
70%-60%: Sufficient (4)
< 60%: Unsatisfactory (5)Attendance is compulsory; up to two absences will be excused if the lecturers are informed beforehand.

• Presentation and feedback skillsMETHODS: The lecturers will introduce the students to the topics listed above, both via presentations and interactive components. The students will apply what they learn in their essay, presentations, in-class exercises, and take-home assignments.LEARNING OUTCOME: After this course, students will (i) know about the theory of science, (ii) understand how science is organised today, (iii) be able to define their own research question, (iv) be able to find and critically read relevant literature, (v) be able to write a well-structured scientific essay including a literature review, and (vi) know how to effectively present their research considering best practices in (data) visualisation.COURSE AND EXAMINATION LANGUAGE: English
