The aim of the course is for all participants to deal with research on sexuality/ies and to develop their research interests with the help of the literature, discussions, and seminar content.
Sexuality/ies are associated with many moral panics and represent an interesting feminist field of research. We want to deal with the current state of research on sexuality/ies from an intersectional-queer-feminist perspective and discuss them through papers, your observations, interviews, lived experiences, or other material you might want to bring to class.
Among other things, we will deal with the hierarchization of sexuality/ies, the medicalization of "deviant" sexuality/ies, racialized eroticism, anti-sex education movements, and phenomena such as the orgasm gap. One part of the seminar will therefore be dedicated to research on individual topics and in a second part, we want to engage with the question of how sexuality research from a queer and intersectional perspective is possible and think about the positionality of the researcher in this context.
Besides the final seminar paper, smaller assignments such as comments/questions on literature, (participant) observation, and an interview will be due during the semester.
The course is designed interactively and some parts will be in a workshop format, participants are welcome to co-create the space.
