Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course takes a closer look at a variety of policies, projects, and strategies that facilitate urban change in recent decades. With a number of actors and institutions operating on a local, regional, national, or global level, cities participate in global processes and are consequentially shaped by them. In this class, attention will be given to processes that shape urban change and events, networks, and institutions that are part of these processes. We will look at how political, economic, and cultural historical and contemporary changes shape and affect which policies and projects are implemented and how.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
1. Final term paper: No more than 2500 word paper outlining a policy or a project of your own choosing in a city of your own choice. The policy or a project does not have to be contemporary nor does it have to be completed. Instead, it could be from the past, ongoing, or rejected from implementation. The paper should, however, be in conversation with the theories and topics discussed throughout the semester and demonstrate a clear understanding on how theories and frameworks are applied. The paper should also include a historical context that clearly demonstrates the ongoing processes affecting urban change. In addition, the relationships between different actors should be outlined and placed in conversation with one another to provide a broader picture of the policy or project discussed in the paper.2. Group presentations: Students will have group presentations for each section of the book. The aim is to read an entire book that touches on different aspects of migration and encompasses the class materials over the course of the semester. • Students must submit the outline of the presentation 2 days before the presentation date on class Moodle; and lead a discussion in class. 3. Moodle comments/questions for each class: Students are expected to post two to three questions/comments for each reading for every class that would be used as a guide to class discussion.4. Class Participation: Students are expected to read all of the assigned texts and participate in class discussions with questions and comments that demonstrate engagement with the readings. Participation grade will be based on your presence in class and engagement in discussion.Grading Structure- Final paper 30%- Presentation 25%- Moodle Questions 25%- Class participation 20%
