Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course covers key topics in Development Economics such as the role of trade, geography or institutions in long-run economic growth. The course also familiarizes students with recent empirical evidence in these areas as well as in cross-cutting issues such as microfinance or the resource curse. In each area we will critically discuss important theories as well as the related empirical research and policies.

Students will develop analytical skills to think independently about economic development issues and policies. The course is taught at an introductory level: no prior knowledge of Economics is required.

Note: A large effort is made to help students understand economic models and graphs. The models and graphs used are relatively simple and only serve the purpose of understanding the interaction between Economics concepts.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will be evaluated on the basis of a final exam. Attending the lectures will help mastering the exam. Possible exam questions will be discussed in the course.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

This course will be held in English. You do not need prior knowledge in economics.
