Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

While the first part of the seminar aimed at delving into the literature on the perceptions of the MENA region, the societal, economic, and political structures of the region, and on how to design a research project, the second part of the seminar will mainly focus on the question how to conceptualize and implement a research project and how to draft a paper. This includes planning, defining a research question, drafting a concept, how to use theory, how to apply it, how to find the right methods and how to write an academic paper.

In addition to an individual research project participants will be also working on the drafting of a joint (group- project).

Participants will be asked to draft first concepts and to present them to the group. We will then together discuss whether the project is feasible, the research question and the methods suggested are fit for the purpose, the timeline is realistic and so on.
After the first round of presentations, participants will revise their drafts and go into a second presentation.
In the last round persons with converging research interests will be matched. They will then discuss in sub-groups progress, challenges, and other questions. Members of the sub-groups will also read and comment on the drafts of others.
